Introduction

I started my career as a secretary for a family owned business and since then I have been in the engineering sector for over 20 years, mainly in sales functions. Throughout all of my roles in this sector I have often felt like an outsider with severe imposter syndrome (especially in my younger years).

I am now very well settled into the Heat Network Sector which has for many years been traditionally male-dominated. Working in this field has meant I have faced some unique challenges, and often adversity from peers and clients.  I have always told myself with every challenge there comes the opportunity to grow, learn and develop beyond the boundaries that are placed against me.

I have had to work harder and faster than male colleagues for recognition and often made sacrifices to be one step ahead but this was my choice, I was always determined to be successful and have a huge passion and drive to help other women maximise their potential.

I thrive on helping others reach their goals and enjoy the journey of learning and growing with them no matter what direction or path they follow.

Being a successful woman in engineering has taught me that the only barrier that stands in your way is you.

My advice to any young girl or woman would be to believe in yourself, surround yourself with other women who want to see you flourish and you can achieve anything your heart and mind desires. Don’t ever let your education, culture, gender or religion stop you from being your true authentic self. You matter, you are seen and you are heard.
