Guru Systems and FairHeat are delighted to announce that their collaborative product Guru Verify has been shortlisted for the ‘Heat and Efficiency – Design Innovation’ category at this year’s Decentralised Energy Awards.

Guru Verify is a mobile and web app for quicker, more cost effective acceptance testing.

The product combines FairHeat’s knowledge of commissioning acceptance testing and the technical skill of product and engineering teams at Guru Systems. With it, you can verify network performance in line with CP1 2020 in up to 90% less time.

  • Define testing criteria and check dwelling status remotely via the web app
  • Real time centralised results support same day repairs
  • Useful commissioning certificates help hold your supply chain to account
  • Benchmark for future maintenance and efficiency improvements
  • Easy to use – designed for all levels of expertise

FairHeat has shown that acceptance testing leads to better outcomes for heat networks. Proper commissioning alone can reduce heat losses on networks by two thirds.

Contributing to a low carbon future

To fulfil their potential, there is a requirement for heat networks to transition to low carbon heat sources. It is most likely that these will be primarily based on heat pump based generation. These systems require low operating temperatures, with good control over return temperatures – e.g. we need to see systems genuinely operate at 60C flow / 30C return. Unfortunately, heat networks in the UK are rarely commissioned properly, with high heat losses and return temperatures. By making acceptance testing quicker and cheaper, Guru Verify supports transition to low carbon heat networks.

Guru Verify is currently being put to the test in developments in London, and will be available shortly.

Gareth Jones, Managing Director at FairHeat said:

Guru Verify will be a highly disruptive tool as it takes FairHeat’s knowledge of heat network commissioning processes and combines these with Guru Systems’ automated data and software design capabilities. It aims to make Acceptance Testing a quick and cost-effective process, such that it is a no brainer to go beyond the minimum requirements of the next iteration of the Code of Practice for Heat Networks and specify testing 100% of dwellings on a network, as per the best practice recommendation. This ensures good heat network performance and resident outcomes from the first day of site handover and provides a rigorous benchmark for future operation and maintenance.

Casey Cole, CEO at Guru Systems said:

From real world projects we’ve repeatedly seen that proper commissioning can reduce heat losses on networks by more than two thirds. Based on Fairheat’s expertise in heat network commissioning, Guru Verify makes the results of commissioning transparent for everyone and allows clients to hold their supply chains to account. Guru Verify will help teams comply with the next version of CP1 more quickly and cheaply and has huge potential to enable delivery of lower cost and lower carbon heat networks. Being shortlisted for this award recognises both the hard work of the teams at Guru Systems and FairHeat, and also the impact that this tool can have on the performance of heat networks.

The award winners will be announced in April 2021.
